Hello,
What's-Your-Name!
I would
like to have a permanent name tag with a pertinent message. It could be
a pin of many colors so it would fit in with any attire. The pin would
have these words on it, “Hello, I know you. I like you. I am glad
to see you. You are important to my life. The chances that I will remember
your name are very rare!” That pin would explain my disability to
everybody. I am not name stunted because of age. I had this problem in
my youth, even when I attended a name memorizing class and quit because
I could not remember the professor’s name! It’s awful! I have
been known to avoid people I know and love. I have been known to slink,
into a public place face-covered so that no nameless friend would get
to me before I get my thoughts together for his or her name! How gracious
God is to assure us that His Name above all names cannot only come trippingly
on the tongue, but will keep us safe from tipping over the stone of stumbling.
How great He is to give us the grace of immediately dialing His private
number. How enormously tender is He to allow us to call Him Father Friend
and dare to cuddle up like a weary child in the comforting Name of Jesus.
Learning that Name will secure us for an eternity of praise unto Him and
when we teach that Name to others we increase the Family Name. And how
gracious of Him, Who has all power, to grant us the convenience of prayer
– in His Name. Dear God, this very day I believe You remember this
sheep that I am and call me by name. Hold me fast with the embrace of
the Holy Spirit, that in the confusion of living, I never forget Your
Name.
