Unique Peace, Unique Guardianship
For
me, a definitive scripture on prayer is in the letter of Philippians.
In the fourth chapter, we are invited into honest, open, thankful and
specific prayer and assured of its result, the peace that is uniquely
God’s, way past human understanding, will take positive
action on our behalf. That is awesome! First, I am reminded that God’s
peace is not limited to my logic. I remember the time I wasted trying
to find God’s peace by defining it. I wanted an equation. He offered
something beyond estimate, His unique peace, and that very peace takes
on the act of guardianship over our hearts and minds! In those verses,
Paul chooses an image from the Roman military, one soldier standing astride
his fallen comrade protecting him! God’s unique peace takes action
on our behalf, literally guarding our hearts and our minds from the vicious
attack of fear on the rampage! Be anxious for nothing, but in everything,
in prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made
known in the very presence of the Living God and His peace, which is past
our understanding, will mount guard over you, in Christ Jesus. Wow!
